Custom Handyman Projects in Santa Rosa
Some projects do not have a trade. They are not a fence job or a carpentry job — they are just something you want built, modified, fixed or figured out, and you do not know who to call. This is the category Gary is best known for, and it is where the interesting work comes from.
If you are not sure who to call for it, ask Gary
The reason unusual projects are hard to get done is not that they are difficult. It is that they do not match anyone's service list, so the people you call cannot price them and say no rather than work it out.
Gary's answer to an unusual request is to look at it. Sometimes it is straightforward once someone has actually thought about it, sometimes it needs a different approach than the one you had in mind, and occasionally it is genuinely not worth doing — but you get a real answer either way.
Projects that started as odd requests
- A cat tree built around a real branching trunk with a hollowed sleeping den
- An arched garden bridge with genuinely curved stringers and shaped handrails
- A resin table top poured to look like shoreline surf over sand
- A rocking chair with the seat and back completely rewoven in cord
- A new attic access hatch cut and framed into a finished ceiling around live wiring
- A tiled outdoor sink cabinet built to fit one specific spot on a patio
How to describe something you cannot describe
You do not have to. Send a photo of the space or the thing, and a sentence about what you want to be different. That is enough to start almost every project in the list above.
It is genuinely more useful than a careful written description, because the constraints that decide whether something is possible — what is next to it, how much room there is, what it is attached to — are all visible in the photo and rarely mentioned in the description.

Common questions
What counts as a custom project?
Anything that does not fit a normal service list. If you have described it to two people and neither knew who should do it, that is the category.
Can I text Gary a photo of my project?
Yes, and it is the fastest way to get an answer. Text a photo to 707-997-3086 with a sentence about what you are trying to accomplish.
What if the idea is not fully worked out yet?
That is normal and it is not a problem. Most custom projects start as a rough idea and a photo, and the details get worked out from there.
