Newer homes do not need repairs — they need finishing

Most of Windsor's residential stock went up from the 1990s onward, built out around the Town Green. Structurally it is young. The doors still latch, the trim is still tight, the steps are still true.

What that stock does have is builder-grade blankness — big flat walls, tall bare entries, corners that came from the developer as empty space. That is why the requests here skew toward installations and built-in carpentry: slat feature walls, sliding barn doors, floating shelves that need real blocking behind them, and benches built into a corner that was doing nothing.

The whole street's fence is failing at once

Subdivisions get fenced by one contractor in one season. Twenty-odd years later every one of those fences reaches the end of its life within a year or two of every other one, which is why fence work here tends to arrive in clusters along the same street.

It also means the neighbouring run is often as far gone as yours, and shared boundaries need a conversation before anything comes down. Where the posts are still sound, a repair is genuinely the better answer; where they are not, building back on steel posts removes the failure point instead of restarting the same clock.

Blocking is what separates a good install from a call-back

Newer construction runs standard stud spacing with nothing extra behind the drywall, so the thing you want mounted rarely has anything structural where it needs it. A heavy mirror, a wall-mounted television, a floating shelf, a barn door track — none of those should be hanging on anchors.

The fix is to open the wall, add timber blocking between the studs, and close it up. It is more work on the day and it is the reason the installation is still solid in five years.
