Project summary

The problem

Large flat ceilings and bedroom walls read as dead space, and in rooms with hard floors they also bounce sound around.

What Gary did

Gary runs the slats at a consistent pitch across the whole plane and sets out from the centre so the cut slats land at the edges rather than in the middle of the view. Where the run meets an irregular feature — the stone chimney breast here — each slat is individually scribed to the stone.

The result

A continuous textured plane with no visible break in rhythm, and the scribed edge following the stone instead of being covered by a trim strip.

Project photographs

Project location is not published because it has not been confirmed. Gary's photo archive spans more than one market and these images are not individually dated or geotagged, so no city is claimed for any single project.
