Project summary
The problem
Gate openings are rarely square and rarely standard. A stock gate hung in an out-of-square opening either binds or shows a tapering gap down the closing edge.
What Gary did
Gary builds the gate to the opening it actually has, braces it so it carries its own weight without dropping at the latch side, and hangs it on hardware sized for the leaf. The arbor is framed in heavy timber and notched so the crossmembers sit into the posts rather than just on them.
The result
Gates that swing true and latch cleanly, and an entry structure with enough mass to frame the opening properly rather than looking tacked on.
Project photographs
Project location is not published because it has not been confirmed. Gary's photo archive spans more than one market and these images are not individually dated or geotagged, so no city is claimed for any single project.
