Project summary
The problem
Timber posts are the part of a fence that fails first — they rot at grade and they twist, and a twisted post pulls every horizontal board out of line with it.
What Gary did
Gary carried these runs on steel posts and fixed the horizontal boards to them. The steel keeps its line, takes up far less visual width than a 4x4, and removes the ground-contact rot point that usually decides when a fence needs replacing.
The result
A very thin, very straight post line with the horizontal boards doing all the visual work — and the part most likely to fail taken out of the equation.
