Meet Gary
A handyman who actually enjoys figuring things out.
Gary's own line about his work is the most useful thing on his old website: "I love to help people with their creative projects."
That is not marketing copy. It is visible in what he has built. A person who only wanted straightforward handyman work would not have built a cat tree around a real branching trunk, or curved the stringers on a garden bridge so every deck board is a different length, or poured a table top to look like surf running over sand.
Woodworking came first
Gary describes woodworking as his first trade, and it shows in the shape of the portfolio. Roughly half of it is work most handymen do not offer at all: live-edge river tables with poured resin, slab tables on steel bases, a rocking chair rewoven by hand in cord, built-in benches with the storage hidden underneath the seat.
That background changes the ordinary work too. A trim job done by someone who builds furniture gets scribed to the wall that is actually there. A fence gets set out so the reveals stay identical over the whole run. It is the same skill applied to a smaller thing.
The projects nobody else would price
The most useful thing to know about Gary is what happens when you describe something unusual. Most trades need a request to match a line on their service list, because that is how they price it — and an unusual request gets a no rather than a conversation.
Gary's answer is to look at it. That is where the bridge, the cat tree, the ocean-pour table and the rewoven chair came from. None of them were on a list.
Working in Santa Rosa
Gary works with homeowners across Santa Rosa and nearby Sonoma County communities. Most jobs start the same way: someone texts a photo of a thing that is bothering them, and asks whether it can be sorted out. Usually that is everyday handyman work; sometimes it turns into something built from scratch.
