Installations

Home Installations in Santa Rosa

Installation work is where the difference between mounted and properly mounted shows up months later. Gary hangs sliding barn doors, runs slat walls and ceilings, fits shelving and mounts fixtures — including the ones that need blocking added before anything goes on the wall.

What is behind the wall decides the job

Anything carrying weight has to be fixed to something structural. Drywall anchors have a real place, but they are not what a floating shelf full of books, a wall-mounted television or a barn door track should be relying on.

Where there is nothing structural in the right place, the answer is to add blocking rather than to use a bigger anchor. That means opening the wall, fixing timber between the studs, and closing it up — more work on the day, and the reason the installation is still solid in five years.

Installations Gary regularly handles

  • Sliding barn doors and interior doors
  • Timber slat walls and slat ceilings
  • Floating shelves and bracketed shelving
  • Acoustic and sound panel installation
  • Crown, casing, baseboard and decorative molding
  • Wall-mounted fixtures and hardware
  • Mantles, hooks, rails and storage fittings

Barn doors need a real header

A sliding barn door puts its entire weight on a track fixed above the opening, and that track has to be carried on something structural across its whole length — not just at the ends, and not into drywall.

It also has to be dead level. A track that is off by a small amount over its run means the door rolls toward the low end by itself every time it is opened. Levelling the track is the whole job.

Common questions

Can Gary install sound and acoustic panels?

Yes — acoustic panel installation is in his portfolio, along with timber slat walls and ceilings, which do a similar job while reading as a finish rather than as treatment.

I bought something flat-packed. Will Gary install it?

Yes, that is common. Text a photo of the item and where it is going to 707-997-3086 — the main thing worth checking early is whether the wall needs blocking added.

Can a barn door go anywhere?

It needs clear wall alongside the opening for the door to slide onto, and a structural header above it to carry the track. Send a photo of the opening and the wall beside it.
