Project summary

The problem

The fireplace had no shelf, and painted brick is never flat or level — a mantle cut square to it sits visibly out of line with the ceiling and the mirror above.

What Gary did

Gary fitted the mantle level to the room and scribed the back edge to follow the brick, so the shelf line agrees with everything else in the room instead of with the masonry.

The result

A solid shelf that sits tight to the brick with no packing visible, and reads level against the mirror and ceiling.
