The problem

Entry steps and porches take the most traffic and weather of anything on a house, so they are usually the first thing to rot, move or fall out of code-height compliance — and they are the first thing every visitor stands on.

What Gary did

Gary rebuilds the structure rather than skinning over it, keeps the risers consistent (uneven risers are what actually trips people), adds handrails where the rise calls for one, and ties the bottom step back into the existing path so there is no lip.

The result

Solid, even entry steps and deck platforms that meet the existing hardscape cleanly instead of sitting on top of it.
